Shimmer: a progress report

A quick update on where I’m at with the Rephaim series.

I’m happy to say I have a completed draft of Shimmer, which has already undergone a round of structural revisions. There’s still work to do, but it’s in reasonable shape – and will only get better from here.

ImageThe real work will come in the new year when my editor and I get cracking on line edits.

Shimmer will be released simultaneously in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom in July, which really isn’t as far away as it sounds. And there will be a synopsis and teaser chapter/s between now and then, I’m sure.

Meanwhile, I’m about 15,000 words into the first draft of the fourth and final book in the series. Still VERY early days and very rough, but I’m relieved to be getting the words down and bringing all those plot threads and character arcs together. I’ve had this book (or at least the key scenes) in my head for nearly four years now…

Oh, and I’m hoping to have a confirmed title for book 4 to share with you all soon. 🙂

So I was just wondering! Will the books be release in a kindle version as well? I’m from the U.S and absolutely love the books, Shadows was on kindle but Haze was not and it took forever to find it and on top of that I had order it from the UK and wait for couple weeks.. I CANNOT WAIT FOR SHIMMER!!! 🙂

      Hi Maylene,
Haze will definitely be on kindle (and in hardcover) in the US/Canada when it’s released there in September. It’s not thaaaat far away. 🙂 So glad you’re loving the series so far. Hope you enjoy Shimmer too!

      1. Maylene says:

Lol I probably said it wrong. I meant to say say Shimmer, I had to buy Haze from the UK and the wait was longest 4 weeks of my life lol. My question is would Shimmer be released the same time in the US as in the UK and Australia? Cause I can’t wait, I may have to buy it again from the UK! Lol ?

        1. paulaweston says:

Oh, my bad! I misread the question. Sorry about that.
I’m hoping to confirm US/Canadian release dates for Shimmer and book 4 (Burn) soon. At this stage, I assume they will be after the Australian/UK release dates, but I’ll keep you posted!

          1. Maylene says:

Yes please do keep me updated! I’ll most likely purchase from the UK again can’t wait for it to release in the US, too long! Lol

The website background thingy is so pretty. I love it. Screw it, I’m screen-capturing.

  3. Hannah says:

Ohhhh my gosh! It is so close to finishing. I can’t wait but I don’t want it to end. I can’t wait to read them, oh please god let the ending be satisfying. Did you really have to leave haze on a cliffhanger? July is both so far away and so close.

    1. paulaweston says:

      Geez Hannah, no pressure! 🙂

      1. Hannah says:

        Haha, sorry about that.

Exciting to hear, Paula! I can’t wait to read Shimmer. Good luck with the editing and writing book four, I know I’m going to love both the books to come.

Thanks Rochelle. I hope so! 🙂

About Me

I’m the author of the Rephaim series and The Undercurrent.

For my day job, I’m a writer-journalist-professional communicator, where my writing involves a lot less profanity.

I grew up in regional South Australia and now live in the Scenic Rim with my husband and a retired greyhound.

If you’re interested in how I came to land a publishing deal, you can read the short version in this post from August 2011. There’s a longer version (in a guest post) here.
